Abisko Lights will be supported by the Berlin council to record a new album, yay!
Tabea Schrenk studied cello and Baroque cello in Berlin, Helsinki, London and Cardiff and completed her Masters with honours. She was an academic at the Welsh National Opera and BBC NOW. Since 2013 she has been living and working back in her hometown of Berlin.
Tabea has been honoured as a violoncellist and chamber musician several times, receiving prizes from the Bach Solo competition in London, the Alice Samter Wettbewerb and the international Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Berlin, amongst others. She has also been supported by the Royal Piano Trio Society UK and the Karl Hofer Gesellschaft.
Over time she has been lucky to study and take part in master classes with Alice Neary, Jan Freiheit, David Geringas, Hannah Roberts, Colin Carr, Frans Helmerson and Alison McGillivray.
Tabea performs in a wide variety of styles. She is a cellist for the jazz ensembles Abisko Lights Quartet and Panorama Peng, the Stegreif Orchester and founder of the cellotrio She Plays Cello. She is also a keen theater musician and took part in various productions for the Deutsches Theater Göttingen, Sophiensaele Berlin, Dock11, Neuköllner Oper and Hebbel Theater.
Tabea Schrenk is an active teacher and has been a jury member for cello in the competition Jugend Musiziert since 2013.
